Mercy Memorial Medical Minute
by Ryan Poquette
Client: Mercy Memorial Hospital System
Agency: Vaccine Creative
Creative Director: Jim TerMarsch
Creative Supervisor / Writer / Producer / Host VO: Ryan Poquette
CHALLENGE: The client wanted to build awareness of multiple health topics and hospital initiatives to potential patients in the Monroe and surrounding area.
SOLUTION: We developed a radio series, Mercy Memorial Medical Minute. For each episode, we scripted a conversation between a host and guest medical expert, either a Mercy Memorial physician or administrator. Early in the series, there were challenges with getting physicians to travel to the radio station to record. As a result, Ryan developed a mobile, shielded VO recording kit that he could set up in any room at the hospital or outpatient facilities – making it easy for the medical experts to attend their recordings. He also took over as voiceover host and assumed all planning and production responsibilities. To minimize production time and cost, he scheduled up to six guest speakers for every onsite recording day. Many had no voice training and were nervous, so Ryan also developed special cue cards and coached them through their reads. At the end of each half-hour recording block, Ryan quickly cut the guest audio with his pre-recorded host VO, added the music, and previewed the rough cut for both the marketing client and featured medical expert, securing tentative approval before leaving the recording. With this system, he was able to produce 40 spots quickly and efficiently. The series significantly raised the profile of the hospital system in the region, helped drive traffic to specific initiatives and won a Bronze in the National Healthcare Marketing Awards.
